Short answer: for a sit-down dessert in Dahlonega, two restaurants on and by the Public Square have dessert menus of their own. The Smith House, serving family-style since 1922, includes dessert in its family-style price and lists pecan pie, Boston cream pie and a cinnamon churro cheesecake. Bourbon Street Grille lists beignets, a Paul Thomas Beignet, seasonal bread pudding and Bananas Foster. For whole pies and cakes to take home, the Picnic Cafe sells them with 48 hours’ notice.

The Smith House

The Smith House has served family-style meals since 1922, and its family-style price includes bread, drinks and dessert. (The Smith House, checked Oct 19, 2026)

The Smith House is a family-style Southern restaurant at 84 South Chestatee St, by the Square. Its own menus list Boston Cream Pie, Strawberry Shortcake, Cheesecake with Strawberries, Cinnamon Churro Cheesecake, Chocolate Cream Pie and Pecan Pie, and a to-go dessert case of pies and cheesecakes.

The Smith House's Friday evening family-style menu (3:30-7:30 PM) lists cinnamon rolls and strawberry shortcake. (The Smith House, checked Oct 19, 2026)

Its October hours, as listed on its own site: Tuesday through Thursday lunch 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m.-7:30 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday is not listed. Hours on that page are labeled for October, so check again in November. Its to-go menu asks for at least 2 hours’ notice on family meals.

Bourbon Street Grille

Bourbon Street Grille is a Cajun restaurant at 90 Public Square N. Its lunch and dinner menu lists four desserts by name:

  • Beignets (4): French Market doughnuts covered in powdered sugar.
  • Paul Thomas Beignet: a powdered-sugar beignet filled with melted, locally made dark chocolate and finished with a strawberry reduction. Paul Thomas Chocolates is also on the Square, at 102 Public Square North; see fudge, chocolate and candy.
  • Seasonal Bread Pudding.
  • Bananas Foster.

Beignets are also on its weekend brunch menu, served Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Seating is a first-floor dining room, bar and pet-friendly deck.

Picnic Cafe whole pies and cakes

The Picnic Cafe and Dessertery on the Square is a cafe, not a restaurant, but it is where to go for a whole dessert. Its catering page lists whole cakes in flavors including Hummingbird, Red Velvet, Carrot, Key Lime and German Chocolate, and whole pies including pecan, pumpkin, apple and key lime, with 48 hours’ notice. Its own site’s hours may be out of date (see bakeries and cafes), so call (706) 864-1095.

What this page does not cover

Many Dahlonega restaurants serve a dessert or two. We only list places whose own menu names their desserts and that we could check on October 19, 2026. For donuts, we could not confirm a standalone shop; the beignets above are the closest thing on the Square. For ice cream after dinner, see ice cream, and for a full meal guide, our downtown guide covers the restaurants.
