Short answer: for baked goods in Dahlonega, start at the Picnic Cafe and Dessertery, the one dessert cafe on the Public Square. For cinnamon rolls, Foothill Grill bakes them fresh every morning a short drive from the Square. On Fridays and Saturdays, Blue Bench Garden sells bread, cakes and cookies from its farm, and The Bear Necessities Cafe serves coffee and breakfast south of downtown. Hours below are as listed on its own site, checked Oct 19, 2026.
Picnic Cafe and Dessertery
The Picnic Café and Dessertery began in 2001 as The Dahlonega Dessertery, using family recipes. (Picnic Cafe, checked Oct 19, 2026)
The cafe serves breakfast and lunch with homemade muffins, scones and pastries in the case, and it sells whole cakes and whole pies. The Visitors Bureau describes it as a stop for a fresh-baked scone or a slice of cake with a latte.
Its catering page lists whole cakes in flavors including Hummingbird, Red Velvet, Carrot, Key Lime and German Chocolate, and whole pies including pecan, pumpkin, apple and key lime. It asks for 48 hours’ notice before any catering order, which covers the whole cakes, whole pies, whole quiche and the Large Baked Goods Platter.
Gluten-free and vegan: the cafe’s own menu lists gluten-free toast and a Vegan Muffin. It is the only place in this guide whose own menu marks gluten-free and vegan items. Its site does not say whether the kitchen is shared, so if you need to avoid gluten strictly, call first.
Address and hours, stated plainly: the cafe’s own site (copyright 2018) prints “30 Public Square N” and “7am-6:30pm everyday”. The Dahlonega DDA directory and OpenStreetMap put it at 30 Public Square South, and the DDA lists different, longer day-by-day hours. We show the South address and the cafe’s own hours, but that page may be out of date: call (706) 864-1095 before a special trip.
Cinnamon rolls at Foothill Grill
Foothill Grill says it has fresh cinnamon rolls every morning, and adds “get there early”. Its menu sells them single or by the half dozen. The diner has been family owned since 2009 and serves breakfast all day, from 7 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., Monday through Sunday. It is at 995 Morrison Moore Pkwy, a short drive from the Square. Besides the Cinnamon Rolls, its own menu names Biscuits & Gravy, Sourdough French Toast and a Belgian Waffle.
The Smith House also lists cinnamon rolls, on its Friday evening family-style menu; see restaurant desserts.
Blue Bench Garden farm bakery
Blue Bench Garden is a small family farm shop at 425 Porter Springs Rd, a drive out of town. Its site says it sells bread, cakes, cookies and other baked goods made on-site, along with produce, eggs, cut flowers and gifts. It is open Fridays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and closed Sunday through Thursday. We could not pin exact coordinates for it, so it does not appear on our map; use the street address.
The Bear Necessities Cafe
The Bear Necessities Cafe is a coffee, breakfast and lunch cafe at 1808 S Chestatee Street, a short drive south of downtown. Its site says its catering menu includes house-made breakfast and lunch favorites and baked goods, but its online menu names no specific pastries, so we cannot tell you what is in the case on a given day. Its own site lists Sunday 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Monday 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m., closed Tuesday, and Wednesday through Saturday 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The DDA directory shows different hours and a different phone; we use the cafe’s own.

- Foothill Grill: Cinnamon Rolls (early), Biscuits & Gravy, Sourdough French Toast.

Donuts and beignets
We could not confirm a standalone donut shop in Dahlonega. Dunkin’ is mapped on Morrison Moore Parkway, but its own locator page showed no store details when we checked, so it is listed as not confirmed in the directory. The closest thing to a donut on the Square is the beignet: Bourbon Street Grille’s menu calls its beignets French Market doughnuts. See restaurant desserts.
Bakers who sell by order or at the market
The bakery cards below also include bakers with no walk-in counter. Nonni’s Bakery works by appointment, and Sherry’s Sweets-n-Eats takes orders through an inquiry form; see custom cakes and home bakers. Whisked Bakery and L & R Feathered Goats sold bread at the 2026 farmers market, which ended its season on October 10; see farmers market bakers.
