Who takes custom orders

Nonni’s Bakery: by appointment

Nonni’s Bakery is a Dahlonega baker that works by appointment only and publishes no street address. Its own site lists cupcake bouquets such as “The McKenna (7 Cupcakes)”, Custom Floral Cupcakes by the dozen, Number Cakes and Gourmet Cookies & Treats. It also runs Sugarbelles Cake & Co., a vintage horse trailer used as an event cake bar. To order, fill in the inquiry form on its site. It says it will be in touch within 48 hours with availability, and that a text to (850) 461-2282 is appreciated.

Sherry’s Sweets-n-Eats: order inquiry form

Sherry’s Sweets-n-Eats describes itself as a cottage bakery in Dahlonega specializing in wedding cakes. Its own site names Wedding & Custom Cakes, Custom Cookies & Cupcakes, Desserts Catering and a Dessert Cake. Every custom order is priced individually through its Order Inquiry form. Its pricing and policies page sets the balance due two months before a wedding and two weeks before other events, so plan to place the order well ahead of those dates. It was also a 2026 farmers market vendor. Phone: (678) 769-5871.

Picnic Cafe and Dessertery: 48 hours’ notice

The dessert cafe at 30 Public Square South, founded in 2001 as The Dahlonega Dessertery, sells whole cakes and whole pies through its catering page. Cake flavors listed there include Chocolate, Strawberry, Key Lime, Coconut, Raspberry, Peach, Red Velvet, Carrot, Hummingbird and German Chocolate. Whole pies include pecan, pumpkin, apple and key lime. The page asks for 48 hours’ notice before any catering order. The cafe’s own site dates from 2018 and its hours differ from the downtown directory listing, so call (706) 864-1095 to confirm a pickup time.

Fudge, chocolate and favors

The Dahlonega Fudge Factory at 8 N Park St takes custom orders, wedding favors, catering and corporate gifts by phone at (706) 864-3988 or by email at contactus@dahlonegafudgefactory.com, per its own site. Mail orders have a one-pound minimum, and it ships chocolate only from November 1 to February 28, dates it calls tentative. Kilwins Dahlonega at 40 Public Square S asks anyone with large orders, party favors, gift baskets or corporate gifts to contact the store directly at (706) 203-3100 and to reach out as early as possible, per its store page.

DQ cakes

The DQ Grill & Chill at 60 S Chestatee St lists cakes among its amenities, and its store page carries an “Order a Custom Cake” link. It is a chain ordering system, not a local baker.

A cake without ordering ahead

Blue Bench Garden, a small family farm shop at 425 Porter Springs Rd (a short drive from the Square), lists cakes among the bread, cookies and other baked goods made in its own kitchen. It is open Fridays and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., as listed on its own site, checked Oct 19, 2026. It does not say which cakes are on hand.

What to ask before you order

  • Your date, first. Ask if the maker is free that day. Nonni’s answers availability within 48 hours of an inquiry.
  • Lead time and payment dates. Only Picnic Cafe (48 hours) and Sherry’s (balance due dates) publish timing. Ask everyone else.
  • Pickup or delivery. None of the makers above publishes a delivery area. Ask where and when you pick up.
  • Allergens. Under Georgia’s cottage food law, a home baker selling a custom order must tell you the item was made at a residential property exempt from state inspection and may contain allergens. With a food allergy in the group, ask about ingredients directly.

Georgia’s cottage food change, in plain terms

Georgia’s House Bill 398 took effect on July 1, 2025. According to the Georgia Department of Agriculture, cottage food operators no longer need a license from the Department and pay no state licensing fee, and they may now sell to grocery stores, convenience stores and restaurants as well as directly to customers.

  • Georgia's House Bill 398, which updated the cottage food rules, took effect on July 1, 2025. Georgia Dept. of Agriculture
  • Since HB 398, Georgia cottage food operators no longer need a Department of Agriculture license and pay no state licensing fee. Georgia Dept. of Agriculture
  • Home bakers may sell cottage foods directly to consumers, including online and by mail order, and since HB 398 also to grocery stores, convenience stores and restaurants. Georgia Dept. of Agriculture
  • Under HB 398, cottage foods must carry the statement 'This product was produced at a residential property that is exempt from state inspection. This product may contain allergens.' in at least 10-point type. Georgia Dept. of Agriculture
  • For custom or phone orders (such as a custom cake), the seller may skip the printed label but must tell the buyer the item was made at a residential property exempt from state inspection and may contain allergens. Georgia Dept. of Agriculture
  • Each Georgia city or county may pass an ordinance barring cottage foods from being sold through third-party stores and restaurants within its limits; local business-license and zoning rules still apply. Georgia Dept. of Agriculture

Three cautions. First, the Department’s older Cottage Food FAQ page still shows answers written before the change, including the old label wording; the law changed and that wording is out of date. Second, local rules may still apply: each Georgia city or county may pass an ordinance keeping cottage foods out of third-party stores and restaurants within its limits, and local business-license and zoning rules still apply. Third, cottage foods are limited to foods that are not potentially hazardous; the law leaves out baked goods whose fillings need refrigeration or have high moisture content. This is a plain summary, not legal advice. Questions go to the Department’s Cottage Food Program at CottageFoodInfo@agr.georgia.gov or (404) 656-3627. Why the big wedding-cake lists miss Dahlonega

Search for custom cakes in Dahlonega and the top results are wedding-vendor marketplaces. When we checked on Oct 19, 2026, the largest of them labeled every vendor “Dahlonega, GA”, yet the addresses in its own page data were in other towns, and none was in Dahlonega.
