Dahlonega Ice Cream: Kilwins, Connie’s and DQ Compared

Short answer: Dahlonega has three ice cream counters we could confirm. Kilwins Dahlonega and Connie’s Ice Cream & Sandwich Shop are on and by the Public Square, and the DQ Grill & Chill is a short drive out on South Chestatee Street. On Friday and Saturday nights Kilwins and Connie’s both close at 9 p.m.; DQ’s store is open until 9:15 p.m. and its drive-thru until 9:30 p.m. Hours are as listed on its own site, checked Oct 19, 2026.

Who scoops what

Kilwins Dahlonega

Kilwins’ store page says it scoops its Original Recipe Ice Cream in fresh waffle cones and makes sundaes and milkshakes. Flavors it names as always on the menu include Cookies & Cream, Sea-Salt Caramel, New Orleans Praline Pecan, Fudgie Brownie and a fruit Sorbetto. The Sorbetto is its dairy-free choice: the store says it is crafted without dairy ingredients but made in a shared environment where dairy is present. You can ask a team member for a free sample. Its full ice cream menu card is published in a format we could not read, so check the counter for the day’s list. Kilwins is at 40 Public Square S and is also one of the town’s two fudge kitchens.

Connie’s Ice Cream & Sandwich Shop

Connie’s at 18 North Park Street serves scoops in cups, cake cones and waffle cones, plus milkshakes, floats, sundaes and espresso-and-ice-cream drinks. Its online menu names a Banana Split, Hot Fudge Brownie, Espresso Shake, Affogato and Milkshake, with cookies and brownies under dessert, and sandwiches if you need lunch first. The shop notes that menu items may include eggs, milk, sesame, soy, tree nuts and wheat. Its day-by-day hours come from its own online ordering page; the DDA directory lists longer hours, so we use the shop’s.

DQ Grill & Chill

The Dahlonega Dairy Queen at 60 S Chestatee St is a chain DQ Grill & Chill with Blizzard treats and DQ cakes alongside its grill menu. The fan favorites its store page shows include the HEATH Blizzard Treat and the Brownie and OREO Cupfection. Its page lists a drive-thru, outdoor seating and restrooms, and custom cakes can be ordered through the store page. It keeps the longest hours of the three: the store opens at 5:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, as published.

Who is open latest

• Friday and Saturday: on the Square, Kilwins and Connie’s both close at 9 p.m. DQ’s store closes at 9:15 p.m. and its drive-thru at 9:30 p.m.
• Monday through Thursday: Connie’s closes at 6 p.m. and Kilwins at 8 p.m., so for an after-dinner cone on the Square on a weeknight, Kilwins is the one still open. DQ runs to 9:15 p.m.
• Sunday: Kilwins and Connie’s both open at noon and close at 8 p.m.; DQ opens at 6:30 a.m. and closes at 9:15 p.m.
• Before noon: Connie’s opens at 11 a.m. Monday through Saturday; Kilwins opens at noon every day.

What we could not find

We found no gelato, frozen custard, shaved ice or frozen yogurt shop in Dahlonega or Lumpkin County, after checking web searches, the DDA’s restaurant and retail directory and OpenStreetMap. If one opens, we will add it once its own page is live. One more ice cream point on the map in OpenStreetMap has no name and could not be matched to any business, so we do not list it.
